Last Sunday saw the club compete on Waupaca Chain, an earlier visit than recent memory. Most anglers undoubtedly were curious as to where the bass would be, relating to the spawn. Coming into the day was the ending of a three day cold front and thunderstorms the night before. Not necessarily a great combo for early Spring. Right away bass were visible in the clear waters, with plenty of keepers and some 3+ pounders cruising the shallows. By most accounts the majority weren't actively feeding. Beds were clearly there, but the challenge turned out to be finding ones that still had fish on them, at least bass other than egg/fry guarders. Or, finding perhaps deeper areas of active fish.
At the end of the day, a decent number of bass were caught. The winners in fact found the best fish on beds, including some nice smallies. Virgil and Nate H. brought in the first place bag, containing a limit for 15.75 lbs and big bass at 3.93. 2nd place went to Greg and Tony. Their limit weighed 12.25 lbs. 3rd was Steve and his guest, also limiting out, at 11.14.
Total fish caught between 6 teams was 26 for 51.08 lbs (including a one pound deduction for a short fish penalty).
Standings have been updated and should be posted soon!
