I am needing to register my boat in the great state of WI...... What is the deal with the 3000 lb limit with trailers? what do you guys do with registering your trailers? Just want to be a law abiding citizen.
Thanks Scott

I know of no requirement to register your boat trailer.

Aparently a new law went into effect two years ago requiring licensing of all trailers 3000# gross weight or greater. DOT has a chart with the fees for the different weight classes. Don't think the police are to worried about enforcing it.

Everything that I have researched is based upon what your trailer is "rated" for. I own a tandem axel so I am "rated" for 5000 lbs. According to the law then I have to register it.

With a tandem you are probably safest to do so.

I was told by a boat sales store they don,t really bother small boats.I have not heard of anyone getting tickets or even be pulled over. They said if your rig is over 3000lbs . So i don,t think anybody needs to worry in the club.( what ever)
