The November 20th meeting of the Fox Valley Bass Club was a bit different. Usually held at Hitters in Kimberly on the third Wednesday of the month, this time, it was held at a member's house to finalize plans and decorations for the December 3rd Kaukauna Christmas parade. Thirteen members made signs, strung lights, shared fishing stories and ate brats while preparing our boat float for the parade. We have lots of candy and a number of volunteers to walk the route passing it out to the kids. Thanks to everyone for the excellent job.
Several topics were covered during the formal meeting.
1.Recruiting new members was a major topic of discussion and is the focus of FVBC participation in the Kaukauna parade. Business cards with the club website, meeting location and time are now available and were distributed to those at the meeting. It was also suggested that our website should clearly state that we are OPEN TO NEW MEMBERS.
2.FVBC Banquet is December 7th at the Darboy Club. A social gathering will start at 6 PM followed by dinner at 7 PM. A motion was made and seconded to change the exchange of his and her gifts to bringing a gift for TOYS FOR TOTS. After being upset that we would not re-gift a pair of his and her fish shaped sandals (fishflops!) from the Bass Masters Classic in Tulsa, my wife warmed to the idea of giving to kids. She wanted to remind members that although toys for little kids are often given, there are also needs for older kids as well. Some of her suggestions included; gift cards(Target, Walmart, itunes), funky pens, pencils or journals, socks, gloves, mittens, hats, hand held games and puzzles, funky usb drives (see Walgreen for cute inexpensive options) and books (sci-fi and fantasy). An FVBC member will ensure the gifts are presented to the organization. Gifts should not be wrapped.
As of last night, we have 20 confirmed for the banquet. For those who haven't indicated or were unsure, please let me know if you plan to attend. We will need to get a close estimate to the Darboy Club by December 3.
3.By-Law changes will be mailed in December.
4.Winter meeting share and learn sessions were suggested to keep the members engaged in the sport. Techniques, new baits, line choices, hooks, boat maintenance, tournament winning strategies were a few of the ideas that were floated. Let's start in December. Do you have a topic that you could share with the group? Let me know.
The next regular meeting will be at Hitters in Kimberly on December 18th starting at 7 PM. Christmas treats are welcome!
Happy (and safe) hunting --if you go--and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Steve Huston, FVBC president
