It was an all-or-nothing tournament on Lake Wisconsin this past Saturday. 7 teams participated, and each team either had a limit or got skunked. The difference between the two really wasn't much, as there were 30 fish caught for 61.56 lbs. That average is worse than it looks considering Steve caught the new big bass of the year, a 4.31 lb largemouth. Take out that good one and the average fish weight was approx. 1.99 lbs. So as you might expect, there were a ton of fish caught..... but many, many short ones, along with a bunch of skinny 14-15 inchers.
Others can add what patterns they found, but from just one perspective, without being able to pre-fish, there wasn't a whole lot of structure to compliment the depth contours, such as any readily available weedlines and such. Docks produced numbers of fish, as well as shaded shorelines that did have some sparse rock/weeds. The slop was pretty dirty and shallow, so there didn't seem to be much of a frog bite. Boat traffic was a bit of a challenge to trying to fish open water. Swim jigs and Senkos produced plenty of bites.
Good news/bad news: Paul was unable to fish due to a family illness, and Jeff had to leave early due to illness. However, Jeff and Pete managed to catch a quick (and winning) limit. Because Paul couldn't fish, Virgil fished alone, and in a display of good sportsmanship, allowed Pete to keep their bag in his spare livewell, and ride along for the rest of the day.
Here are the official results:
1st place: Pete and Jeff 13.04 lbs
2nd place: Mitch and Troy 12.73 lbs
3rd place: Steve and Dan C. 12.72 lbs
The smallest limit initially weighed 11.5 lbs but got a 1/2 lb dead fish deduction.
