I have in hand the forms to be submitted for the FVBC entry in this years Kaukauna Christmas parade. I talked to the city about our possible entry, and he said we would be welcomed. There is no cost. I think this would be an easy, inexpensive, way to get some exposure for the club. Thoughts??

I think all we need to do is choose the prettiest looking truck and boat in the club, do a little decorating, and find a couple shapely young ladies that would be willing to sit in the boat in a Christmas parade wearing bikinis ... that should up membership! Seriously tho - sounds pretty cool! Mark B "A Jerk at one end of a line waiting for a jerk at the other end ..."

Mike I need to have you confirm the date and time. While I don't like the idea of the possibility of pulling my boat through a snowstorm and filling the trailer brakes with salt I will do it if the club feels we have a chance to add a member. In my opinion there are better ways to advertise our club to the right audience but again if we feel this will add exposure to our club I will agree

The date for the parade is December 3rd at 6:00pm. This was only a thought. I was thinking this would be a fun/cheap way to expose the clubs existence, while promoting this years 1000 Islands event. But, I don't want anybody ruining boats, trailers, or anything else, by having it out... given the potential for ugly weather. I had not considered that. I haven't sent in the forms yet, so we are not committed to anything.

Mike and I went fishing on Wednesday and talked about the parade. I thought it was a good idea and suggested a few ways to make it appealing to potential members. We both thought that our best chances at new members might be the walleye fishing guys. Like Dan, a few of these guys may enjoy a little competitive fishing and a chance to expand their fishing skills.
John S is right to think of the weather and his major investment in a boat. Besides his boat has been viewed, used and abused by almost every kid in Kaukauna for the last several years at 1000 Island. He deserves a break in the off season. I, on the other hand, have a well used boat that would welcome the opportunity to come out of the garage. It also may be less intimidating to the walleye crowd then a tricked-out bass boat. I planned to keep my boat in the garage for the winter anyway. So let's use it.
According to Mike, it would be customary to hand out candy along the parade route. We were thinking a minimum of four members would be needed. Driver, fisherman and two walkers passing out candy and flyers.(Karla said she could print up some business cards with the club info and use these as the handout.) Fisherman and walkers could switch off if a walker became tired--or cold. We could store extra candy in the boat to resupply as needed. (SAVE YOUR LEFT-OVER HALLOWEEN CANDY.) We could decorate the boat with lights and make signs for the club site and advertise for our 1000 Island event. Including our sponsors on the signs may be another possibility. I have a small generator that could be used for power. The club has at least one new sign, and I remember a second, older banner. If we used what we have and then added a few things (looking for suggestions here) I think we could pull this off. The worst could be a zero on new members. Otherwise it could be fun and worth the opportunity to be "out there."
Mike has agree to be the parade chairman. I will be his number one helper. What we need are two or three additional volunteers for the parade day involvement. (December 3 from 4PM til 8PM.) Suggestions on decorating are welcome. I could use help decorating the boat in my garage. If we held the November 20th meeting at my house, we could use that gathering to do a dry run on the decorating, a shake down cruise if you will.
Thoughts? Steve

Steve/Mike I really appreciate your discussion and ideas and will be able to help in any way. I especially appreciate your offer to use your boat Steve and that you understand my feelings. I will do whatever I can for the club but your logic is once again correct.

So here is the plan so far. *November 20th Meeting will be held at my house (1830 W Glendale Ave, Appleton, WI) instead of Hitters. *Virg is going to notify Hitters that the club will not be there Nov 20th and bring FVBC Sign and banner if he has it. *Brian will contact Brad, Greg, Ty and Scott(not on forum) regarding location change and bring banner if he has it. *Let me know by this forum that you are aware of the location change, so we do not have to make calls of notification. *Bring any candy for donations to the meeting. Mike can assess if we have enough and purchase more if needed. *Bring decorations to the meeting that you think may work with the boat. (Note: We will have AC power for your inflatable Santa, Snowman or Bass) We can string lights, icicles, etc around the boat using the boat cover snaps. *Karla will be out of town that night so I will be cooking for myself and anyone else that is interested in having Venison Bratwurst. I have 20 brats left from last years deer. Bring your own beverage and I will have every thing else. (Virg is bringing the buns and chips.) Let me know when you acknowledge the location change if you intend to dine at the Hustons. Serving starts any time after 5:30.
Thanks for your help and suggestions. Steve

I plan to come for dinner, Steve. [Maybe we could have regular dinner meetings at Steve's Diner???] I'll bring some candy and help with decorating on the 20th, but can't participate in the parade [sounds like fun, tho] since I won't know what my wife's status will be. She is scheduled for back surgery at University Hospital in Madison on Nov. 26, will be there 3-5 days perhaps, then back here for rehab for some days.
